More venting....

A friend had her History of Taiwan class at UBC recently, where a guest speaker was invited to address the class on Taiwan. The guest speaker was Taiwanese, and is a high-ranking official from the Kuomintang Party in Taiwan. Wait, I forgot to say, pretty highly educated as well.

At the end of the speech, all students were asked to write an essay on their opinions on the guest speakers and his topic discussion.

As a result, some of the students wrote about how great China and its economy is at the moment, and how it is great that Taiwan is relying on China economically.

Errr......

Here's what's wrong with his speech.
    1. Taiwan is not part of China.
    2. China's economy is not Taiwan economy.
    3. Taiwan should not be so dependent on China economically.
    4. China's current economy is over heated, and the bubble will burst.
    5. He showed a graph with more Taiwanese admitting that they are in the category of 'Taiwanese & Chinese' when asked what nationality they are. Which is NOT true. When given a choice. Most of Taiwanese will label themselves as TAIWANESE.
*Currently running around with my head in my hands in disbelief*

      Conclusion !
      1. The guest speaker is NOT Taiwanese, OR
      2. Doesn't consider himself Taiwanese.
      3. He should go shoot himself right now.

I read a little bit on the link to course blog. I wouldn't disagree with everything that the blogger mentioned, nor the lecturer.

Whether we believe it or not, many TW are seeking fortune in China. We can be as hypocritical as we can be, but many countries are "relying" on the growth of China, not just TW exclusive.

And that is how politics work, you inject fear in ppl's mind and they will probably vote for you, both parties are guilty of doing that in tw. Actually, mr. bush of the empire of US is the most guilty of doing just that.

That is just another venting point for me. Why does so many tw politicians/civilians use us as an example, "if us is doing this, we should do it too!"... why?!?! if mr. bush jumps off a building (or bomb another country), should we do the same?

Moreover, I have actually heard ppl commenting (including my mom), that "we should never unite with China, we rather be a state of US" Although I agreed with the first part of the comment, I gasped on the second part. How is that being independent? It just feels childish. "dad, im not marrying John, if you force me, i'll marry Tom!"....!@#$%^$

      Haha...

      Point Taken, Mr. Lamb.

What I was most angry about on the blog is the fact that it's a topic about Taiwan, and its History.

Why is politics involved? Taiwan's got a lot of other things going on than just politics.

We need to raise morale of TW ppl, not continue to dwell in this political BS.
